OUR REVIEW IS IN: PIEROGI BOYS

Listen, I know DeKalb Market is like a United Nations of food stalls. You could eat your way through four continents before you even hit the back wall. But I don’t play the field anymore. I go straight to Pierogi Boys. Every time. Like a moth to a kielbasa-scented flame.

First thing you need to know: this isn’t some novelty Polish joint churning out shitty frozen dough from a box. These boys mean it. The pierogies are the real deal. They’re pillowy, golden, pan-fried little pockets of glory. Potato and cheese? Classic. Sauerkraut and mushroom? Funky in the best way. Meat? Let’s just say if this pierogi asked me to move in, I’d start packing.

Speaking of meat, let’s talk kielbasa. Thick, juicy, seared just right. You get a little char, a little snap, and that greasy, smoky comfort that makes you close your eyes mid-bite like you’re in a sausage-induced trance. The Pierogi Boys are known for their sausage, and they should be. It’s long, hot, and exactly what you need in your mouth after a hard day in New York.

But the sleeper hit? The pickle soup. Yes, you read that right. Pickle. Soup. It’s briny. It’s creamy. It’s weird in a way that works. Like, "I never thought I’d drink warm pickle juice and then want more" kind of works.

The stall itself has a homegrown charm: bright colors, bold florals, and just enough Polish folk art flair to make you feel like your babcia might pop out with a rolling pin and tell you to sit down and eat something.

So yeah, I go back every time. And if loving these pierogies makes me predictable, go ahead and judge me while I lick sour cream off my knuckle.
